Star Trek: Two Original Series Characters Return in Paramount+ Show

Exciting news for Star Trek fans! Two beloved characters from the original series are making a comeback in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. According to a report from THR, Thomas Jane will portray Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, while newcomer Kai Murakami will play Hikaru Sulu in the upcoming show. Fans can catch them in the final episode of the fifth season, which just finished filming and will be the show’s last.

Dr. McCoy, affectionately known as “Bones,” was originally portrayed by DeForest Kelley in the original Star Trek series. An expert doctor aboard the USS Enterprise, McCoy was also played by Karl Urban in the reboot films. Hikaru Sulu, originally portrayed by George Takei, has also been portrayed by John Cho in the reboot movies.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which premiered in 2022, is a spin-off of Star Trek: Discovery. Created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet, the show follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the Enterprise crew, set in the decade before the original series.

Currently, three seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are available to stream on Paramount+.
