Talking non-stop about Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed TV show for months

I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming Assassin’s Creed TV show on Netflix, especially since the latest update announced that the production will take place in Italy. As someone who isn’t a hardcore gamer, but appreciates the historical and adventurous elements of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, I believe a TV series is a better fit for the game than the 2016 movie. I’ve been rooting for the adaptation to focus on Assassin’s Creed 2, set in the Italian Renaissance, and the news that filming will begin in Italy in early 2026 gives me hope that my wish might come true.

Each installment of the Assassin’s Creed game series is set in a different historical time and place, ranging from the Middle Ages to 16th-century Japan. Personally, I have a soft spot for Assassin’s Creed 2, which explores the Italian Renaissance in the late 1400s. The rich historical backdrop, featuring figures like Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolò Machiavelli, adds depth to the gameplay and storyline.

What I appreciated about the games, and hope to see in the show, is the seamless integration of fictional stories with real historical context. The movie missed the mark by spanning multiple time periods, but I’m crossing my fingers that the TV adaptation will stay true to one era. Whether it’s the Italian Renaissance or not, I’m excited to see how the show unfolds and am hoping for a release later in 2026. In the meantime, I’ll happily revisit Assassin’s Creed 2 to bide my time.
