Apple Intel partnership for M7 processors: A possibility?

Rumor has it that Apple and Intel might be teaming up again to work on M7 processors. It’s been quite a while since Apple made the switch from Intel processors to its own Apple Silicon chips, but this new development could mark a change in that trend.

According to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Intel is expected to start shipping low-end M-series chips by mid-2027. Apple is planning to use Intel’s 18A process, which Kuo describes as the “earliest available sub-2nm advanced node manufactured in North America.”

If this rumor pans out, Intel could potentially supply Apple with M6 or M7 chips for future MacBook Air, iPad Air, and iPad Pro models. However, Intel’s role would be limited to manufacturing, not design. The majority of Apple’s M-series chips would still come from TSMC.

This potential partnership with Intel could help Apple meet two goals: producing more products in the USA, as desired by President Trump, and diversifying its supply chain for manufacturing.
