Monsters Funday Football: Animated NFL Game Overview & Exclusive Interview

But what exactly is Funday Football and how does it all work? Funday Football is an alternate telecast, known as an “altcast,” brought to you by ESPN, Disney, Pixar, the NFL, and Beyond Sports. Instead of your typical football broadcast, this game takes place in the world of Pixar, set in the iconic Monsters, Inc. headquarters with live animations of your favorite characters.

So, how does all this magic happen behind the scenes? Each player on the field wears a tracking device that feeds data into special technology provided by Sony’s Beyond Sports and Hawk-Eye Innovations. This data is then used to create the live animations we see during Funday Football, from throws to tackles, in real time. Even the commentators, Drew Carter and Dan Orlovsky, get in on the action through virtual reality headsets, syncing up their calls with their animated avatars.

In this year’s Monsters Funday Football game, get ready to see the defending champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, take on the Los Angeles Chargers in a monster-infused matchup. Don’t miss out on the action happening in Monstropolis, as each player will be represented by an animated version of themselves on the field.
