Prime Video Launches AI-powered Video Summaries

Amazon’s Prime Video has rolled out a new feature called AI-powered video season recaps for select English-language Prime Original series in the U.S. This innovative use of generative AI aims to give viewers a quick refresher on their favorite shows before diving into a new season.

The video recaps, which are currently in beta, take key plot points from previous seasons and combine them with voice narration, dialogue snippets, and music to create a visual summary. This feature is designed to make the viewing experience more enjoyable and accessible for customers, allowing them to jump back into a series with ease.

This new Video Recaps feature builds upon Amazon’s X-Ray Recaps, which was introduced in 2024 and provides spoiler-free text summaries of show details. When viewers navigate to the next season of a supported series, they will see a recap button on the detail page. From there, they can choose between video or text-based recaps, such as X-Ray Recaps, to get up to speed before starting a new season.

According to Gérard Medioni, Vice President of Technology for Prime Video, Video Recaps represent a groundbreaking use of generative AI for streaming and showcase Prime Video’s commitment to innovation. This unique feature aims to enhance the viewer’s experience and make it easier for them to enjoy their favorite shows.

Currently, the Video Recaps feature is available for select Prime Originals like “Fallout.” It’s an exciting development that demonstrates how AI technology is being used to improve the streaming experience and engage viewers in new and innovative ways.
