Paramount Secures UK Rights for Champions League Matches from 2027
Paramount+ has secured the rights to broadcast the majority of Champions League soccer matches in the UK from 2027 to 2031. This victory came after a fierce competition with TNT Sports in an auction, according to UC3, a partnership between UEFA and European Football Clubs.
Amazon’s Prime Video, on the other hand, will continue to have the first pick of Tuesday matches in the UK and two additional European markets. TNT Sports, previously known as BT Sport, has been showcasing Champions League matches since the 2015-16 season.
Despite losing the rights to the Champions League, the joint venture between BT Group and Warner Bros Discovery Inc, remains committed to offering a diverse range of soccer content, including the English Premier League, as well as a wide selection of premium sports.
In response to losing the Champions League rights, the joint venture stated, “Ultimately we remained committed to the approach that made financial sense for our business, and for our customers.”
This development marks a significant shift in the broadcasting landscape for soccer fans in the UK, with Paramount+ set to bring a fresh perspective to the coverage of the prestigious Champions League matches in the coming years. Fans can look forward to engaging and high-quality broadcasts of their favorite teams in action on this platform.
