NBA Records Highest Opening-Month Viewership in 15 Years
The NBA is off to an incredible start this season, with the best opening-month ratings in 15 years. More than 60 million viewers tuned in to watch national NBA games on NBC/Peacock, Amazon Prime Video, or ESPN in the first month of the regular season. This is fantastic news for the league, especially considering it’s the first year of an 11-year, $76 billion deal with NBA broadcast partners.
Not only are fans watching on TV, but NBA content is also killing it on social media platforms. The league has racked up over 30 billion views across various platforms, setting a record for this point in the season. Sales of merchandise on NBAStore.com are up over 20%, thanks in part to the rise of exciting young stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, and Luka Doncic.
And it’s not just about digital views – in-arena attendance is strong too. Attendance is on par with last season, which was the second-best in league history. Ten teams have already sold out every home game this season, including big names like the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and New York Knicks.
Overall, the NBA is thriving with more fans than ever tuning in and showing up to support their favorite teams. It’s an exciting time for basketball fans, and the league is delivering on all fronts.
