Twisted Metal Season 3 Approved by Peacock for PlayStation Series

Exciting news for fans of Twisted Metal! Season 3 has officially gotten the green light at Peacock, but with a twist—its original showrunner is stepping aside. According to Variety, more episodes of the Anthony Mackie-led series are on the way, but co-creator and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith will not be involved in the upcoming season.

The reins will now be handed to David Reed, a seasoned writer known for his work on popular shows like The Boys, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and The Magicians. Reed will take on the role of showrunner and executive producer for Season 3 as part of an overall deal with Sony Pictures Television.

Season 3 of Twisted Metal comes hot on the heels of the Season 2 premiere back in July, which has been a hit with viewers. Reports from NBCUniversal indicate that the show has already amassed an impressive 993 million minutes viewed since its release.

For those unfamiliar, Twisted Metal made its TV debut in 2023, bringing beloved PlayStation characters to life, including John Doe played by Mackie. The show features a talented cast, with Anthony Carrigan, Thomas Haden Church, and Richard de Klerk portraying iconic characters like Calypso, Agent Stone, and Mr. Grimm, respectively. And let’s not forget the franchise favorite, Sweet Tooth, played by Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnett.

Despite the absence of a new video game installment for over a decade, Peacock is committed to keeping the spirit of Twisted Metal alive for fans. Co-creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are back as executive producers for Season 3, promising more of the beloved cartoonish vehicle combat.

While details about the plot and casting for Season 3 remain a mystery for now, fans can look forward to more thrilling episodes to come. In the meantime, you can check out our review of Season 2 and dive into the cancelled Twisted Metal game that made headlines earlier this year.
