Surprise Locations Unveiled for Apple TV Drama Set in Oxford

Surprise locations have been revealed for the Apple TV drama set in Oxford, called “Down Cemetery Road.” The author of the Slow Horse series, Mick Herron, who lives in Oxford, wrote the original crime novels featuring detective Zoe Boehm. Apple TV+ is now airing the TV adaptation of his 2003 novel.

The series stars renowned actors like Dame Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson in an eight-episode run. While the show is set in Oxford, it was not actually filmed there. Instead, filming took place in Bristol, Somerset, and Cornwall. Bristol was chosen for its resemblance to Oxford in some areas and the available studio production facilities.

Exciting scenes were filmed in locations like St Nicholas Market, the University of Bristol’s Arts & Social Sciences Library, and Baltic Wharf in Bristol, as well as in Bath, Somerset, and Cornwall’s Polperro and Holywell Bay. Interior scenes were shot at The Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol. The first two episodes premiered on October 29, with new episodes releasing every Wednesday until the series finale on December 10.

The storyline follows neighbour Sarah Trafford, played by Ruth Wilson, who becomes obsessed with finding a missing girl after a house explosion in Oxford. She seeks help from private investigator Zoë Boehm, portrayed by Dame Emma Thompson, leading them into a tangled conspiracy. The series is produced by 60Forty Films, with Morwenna Banks and Natalie Bailey involved in writing and directing roles.

“Down Cemetery Road” joins the Emmy Award-winning spy drama “Slow Horses” on Apple TV+, which has been renewed for a seventh season. Starring Sir Gary Oldman, the series is based on Mick Herron’s acclaimed Slough House book series.
