Slow Horses star shares thoughts on season 5 finale

Slow Horses made a strong comeback this autumn, leading up to a thrilling finale on 29th October. Fans were left stunned when Diana Taverner, played by Kristin Scott Thomas, achieved her long-desired position as head of First Desk at MI5. The show, inspired by Mick Herron’s popular book series, has already been renewed for two additional seasons. Slow Horses follows a group of MI5 outcasts, including characters like River played by Jack Lowden and Jackson Lamb played by Gary Oldman, who are sent to Slough House after making career-ending mistakes.
I caught up with Christopher Chung, who portrays Roddy, and he gave us a sneak peek into what’s coming next. Speaking at the Global Gift Gala in London, an event focused on supporting families in need, Christopher shared his thoughts on Roddy’s journey in the latest season. He mentioned how the show has helped elevate his visibility and provide a platform for raising awareness about important causes—a great way to use his newfound recognition.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Christopher hinted at exciting developments for his character. While he couldn’t reveal too much due to confidentiality agreements, he teased that the fallout from season five will have a significant impact. With Taverner now holding the reins as First Desk, season six promises to be full of surprises. Roddy may have learned some valuable lessons from past mistakes and could be approaching things from a more spiritually enlightened perspective, particularly after his experiences with his girlfriend in the previous season.

As the show progresses, tensions between Diana and Lamb are likely to rise, despite their attempts to stay out of each other’s way in the previous season. The synopsis for season six hints at the Slow Horses being caught up in a dangerous game orchestrated by Taverner, leading to high-stakes retaliation and revenge. Behind the scenes, there will be changes too, with a new head writer, Gaby Chiappe, taking the lead.
While the complete cast list for season six has not been officially confirmed, familiar faces like Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Saskia Reeves, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, and Tom Brooke are set to return. Additionally, Hugo Weaving will reprise his role as River’s father, Frank Harkness. Excitingly, the trailer hints at the introduction of new characters, including Harry Lloyd from Game of Thrones and Lenny Rush from A Woman of Substance.

As for the release date of season six, Apple TV has not disclosed any details yet. However, given the show’s past schedule, fans can expect it to premiere in autumn 2026. Meanwhile, production has already begun on season seven, ensuring that viewers will have plenty of Slow Horses action to look forward to. In the meantime, audiences can catch up on the first five seasons available on Apple TV.
