Actor at Starfleet Academy fulfills lifelong Star Trek dream
Paul Giamatti is fulfilling a lifelong dream by joining the Star Trek universe in the upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. The two-time Oscar nominee is set to play Nus Braka, a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite villain. Giamatti, known for his roles in The Holdovers and Cinderella Man, expressed his excitement about this new opportunity during a panel at New York Comic Con. He shared, “I play a half-Klingon, half-Tellarite [character]. And the Tellarites are these really, really, really aggressive, disputatious pig people. And I was like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m all over that!.’ So, I got to play up — I’m the bad guy! It’s fantastic! There’s a great tradition of bad guys. I get to do it. So, I’m happy as a pig in [expletive].”
In Starfleet Academy, Giamatti will face off against Holly Hunter, who portrays the Starfleet Academy Chancellor and captain of USS Athena, Nahla Ake. These accomplished actors bring their talents to the Star Trek universe, adding to the excitement of the upcoming series. The show’s footage indicates that Giamatti’s character, Nus Braka, and Hunter’s character will be adversaries, setting the stage for an intriguing storyline.
As fans eagerly anticipate the release of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on January 15, 2026, the dynamic duo of Giamatti and Hunter adds a new level of excitement to the franchise.
