A recent study by HelloFresh UK and Paramount+ uncovered an interesting trend: a huge 63% of Brits have been inspired to look up recipes based on their favorite TV shows or movies. This shows that what we watch on screen can directly influence what we end up cooking in our kitchens.
It seems that streaming platforms are the new kings of our leisure time, with series and films having a bigger impact on our meal choices compared to social media or traditional print sources. Interestingly, more than half of people surveyed admitted that their viewing habits affect what they decide to have for dinner. Nostalgia also seems to play a big role in the food we crave, with over half of participants saying that revisiting childhood favorites makes them long for comfort food—perfect for cozy nights in.
To celebrate this unique connection between screens and suppers, HelloFresh UK and Paramount+ have teamed up to launch an exclusive menu called “One Menu. A Mountain of Entertainment.” This collaboration features over 50 recipes inspired by films and series, with creative dishes like the SpongeBob SquarePants Krispy Katsu Burger and the Mean Girls “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink” Risotto.
When it comes to genre preferences, travel shows seem to be the top influencers for food choices, followed closely by dramas and comedies. In a fun twist, horror movies even inspire some people’s culinary creativity just in time for spooky season.
Interestingly, the study also revealed a shift in dating habits, with more Brits opting to stay in, cook together, and stream their favorite shows over traditional nights out. And when it comes to dream dinner companions, it seems that SpongeBob SquarePants is a more popular choice than Michael Corleone or Eric Cartman.
