Disney+ Ends Doctor Who Partnership, BBC Commits to Continue Series

Disney+ and the BBC have decided to end their partnership for the popular show Doctor Who. While Disney+ has been the worldwide home of the series outside of the U.K. and Ireland, the BBC is committed to keeping the show going strong. Fans can expect a Christmas special in 2026, which is sure to be a spectacular adventure.

We are excited to have Russell T Davies back to write another fantastic Christmas special for 2026. Rest assured, the Doctor is here to stay!”

The Doctor Who streaming deal was announced in October 2022 between Disney+ and the BBC. It included two seasons of the show featuring Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor. Gatwa, who left the role after the most recent season, delivered a memorable performance that fans will not soon forget. Disney+ will continue to stream these two seasons along with The War Between the Land and the Sea.

Even though Disney+ will no longer be the home of Doctor Who, fans can rest assured that the BBC is fully committed to continuing the iconic series.
