Millions of Disney+ and Hulu subscription cancellations revealed in latest data
New data has recently been released showing a spike in cancellations for Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions. This increase coincided with ABC’s decision to briefly cancel “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in September. The show faced backlash over comments made about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to the data from Antenna, a subscription analytics company, there were an estimated 4.1 million cancellations for Hulu and 3 million for Disney+ in September. The churn rate, which measures the percentage of customers who cancel their subscriptions in a given month, rose from 5% in August to 10% in September for Hulu. For Disney+, the churn rate increased from 4% to 8% during the same period.
Despite the rise in cancellations, both platforms saw an increase in signups in September compared to the previous five months.
It’s important to note that the data from Antenna focuses on U.S. consumer data and excludes subscribers who are part of bundle deals.
As of the most recent earnings report for the quarter ending June 28, Disney reported a total of 183 million Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions.
Disney has chosen not to comment on these recent findings.
