Eddington Sets HBO Max Release Date: Watch and Stream Online
A24’s thrilling movie “Eddington” is scheduled to debut on HBO Max on November 14th. Directed by Ari Aster, known for “Hereditary”, “Midsommar”, and “Beau Is Afraid”, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix as a small-town sheriff who decides to run for office during the COVID-19 pandemic and Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. His rival, the mayor, is played by Pedro Pascal, who promotes more progressive ideas and encourages the people of Eddington, New Mexico, to wear masks. Phoenix’s character is a conservative who is against masks, and his life is thrown into chaos due to the pandemic, political struggles, and rising violence.
The cast of “Eddington” also includes Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, Austin Butler, and Emma Stone.
While “Eddington” received critical acclaim, it didn’t perform as expected at the box office, opening at $4.3 million and ranking sixth. Despite this, the film went on to earn $13 million worldwide.
Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised the movie, saying, “Just when you think you’ve got ‘Eddington’ pinned down as a coherent and even conventional suspense tale, the movie wriggles out from under you and enters a terrain of stranger things.” Gleiberman noted that the film doesn’t get lost in its own details like “Beau Is Afraid” but does become somewhat abstract, showcasing Ari Aster’s unique and sometimes indulgent filmmaking style.
