Alien: Earth Demographic Surprises
After reading all the metrics, season 1 of FX’s “Alien: Earth” seems to be a hit! Critics loved it, fans mostly enjoyed it, and the numbers don’t lie. The premiere managed to pull in 9.2 million views in just six days, from streaming on Hulu and Disney+ to good ol’ linear TV on FX. But here’s the twist—the majority of viewers in that 9.2 million were actually aged 65-74, over-indexed by 8% compared to other age groups. That’s a surprise considering the show’s violent sci-fi theme and focus on corporate power, but hey, senior sci-fi fans are here for it!
Sure, the “Alien” franchise has been around for decades, so those older fans have had time to grow with it. But the success of “Alien: Earth” might also be thanks to its clever mix of streaming and traditional TV formats. Younger viewers who lean towards streaming might have been drawn in by the FX broadcast side of things.
As of now, FX hasn’t officially jumped on board for season 2, but all signs point in that direction. Season 1 scored high ratings, nabbed the #1 spot on Samba TV’s streaming rankings more than once, and left us all hanging in a way that practically screams “more to come!” Showrunner Noah Hawley seems pretty optimistic about it too, hinting at the potential for future seasons to dig deeper into the “Alien” universe and the human condition.
So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for news about the next season soon. Our friendly alien friends might just be back for more intergalactic adventures sooner than we think!
