Boys Spinoff Likely Cancelled on Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video’s animated anthology series, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, seems to have hit a roadblock when it comes to a second season. Co-creator Eric Kripke shared in a recent interview with The Wrap that the chances of a season 2 are slim. Despite the team’s efforts and enthusiasm, viewer numbers just weren’t enough to justify continuing the show. The unique series, which premiered in March 2022, featured eight standalone episodes, each showcasing its own animation style and tone. With contributions from talented creatives like Seth Rogen, Awkwafina, and even Garth Ennis, the show added an irreverent twist to The Boys’ extended universe.
Despite its critical acclaim, boasting a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Diabolical didn’t attract enough viewership to secure a second season. As disappointing as this news may be for fans of the series, it’s not the end of The Boys’ broader universe. The live-action spinoff Gen V is still going strong, and The Boys: Mexico is currently in the development phase. Kripke mentioned that the pilot script for Mexico is in progress, and there are hopes for a second season of Vought Rising. The team at Prime Video has been supportive, but as Kripke noted, the audience also plays a crucial role in the success of these shows. Here’s to hoping fans show up to support these new ventures!
