This weekend in Savannah and all along the coast is set to celebrate its delightful offbeat vibe. From Parrotheads to Peacocks, there are tasty treats, live music, and a chance to do some good. So, pull out those calendars and make some plans.
The final weekend of the 21st annual Historic Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival occurs Oct. 18-19, with a street fest along Calhoun Street. More than 100 jury-selected artists from 10 different states will showcase their creativity, chefs and cooks will serve up local seafood, and live music will fill the air. As part of the year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of author Flannery O’Connor’s birth, the board of her Childhood Home Museum is bringing back the Peacock Party after a hiatus due to the COVID-19 shutdown. This party is known for its colorful quirkiness and will feature Southern-style nibbles, a signature “peacocktail,” and special guest architect Christian Sottile. Calling all Parrotheads! The Savannah Reefer Band will pay tribute to the original Mayor of Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett. This group of talented musicians will take you on a musical journey to Key West or St. Barts without ever leaving the city. For the twentieth year, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society will host its Buddy Walk and Family Fun Fest at Forsyth Park. This annual event raises awareness and support for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Proceeds from the event benefit Camp Buddy, summer camps for children in Chatham and Effingham counties. It’s a wonderful way to experience profound joy and support a great cause.
