Disney+ ‘A Thousand Blows’ Premiere Date Set

Disney+ has officially announced that the popular period drama series, A Thousand Blows, created by Steven Knight of Peaky Blinders fame, will be returning for its second season. Led by the talented Stephen Graham, the series is set to premiere its six-episode second season on January 9, 2026, following its successful first run earlier this year.

The show is set in 19th-century London and delves into the underground world of bare-knuckle boxing, focusing on the story of two Jamaican friends, Hezekiah Moscow (Malachi Kirby) and Alec Munroe (Francis Lovehall), as they navigate their way up through the ranks. The series also shines a light on the Forty Elephants, a real all-women crime syndicate that operated in the 1880s, highlighting one of history’s often overlooked criminal networks.

Season 2 of A Thousand Blows picks up one year after the intense finale of the first season. Boxer Hezekiah Moscow, played by Malachi Kirby, is portrayed as “a shadow of the man he once was,” while Henry “Sugar” Goodson (Stephen Graham) finds himself grappling with estrangement from his family and the weight of guilt. As the neighborhood of Wapping starts to diminish, the formidable Mary Carr (Erin Doherty) makes a dramatic return to town with her trusted ally, Alice Diamond (Darci Shaw), aiming to rebuild her gang and reclaim her rightful place — with even higher stakes this time around.

In an interview with Screen Rant, creator Steven Knight shared insights into the show’s development and the journey ahead for the characters. He mentioned that A Thousand Blows was renewed for a second season while still filming the first few episodes, showcasing Disney’s confidence in the series. Knight highlighted the show’s immersive realism, set within a meticulously crafted 1880s East End setting along the Thames, as a key factor in securing the early renewal.

Looking to the future, Knight hinted at a deeper and more personal storyline for Hezekiah, with unexpected revenge rooted in his past and character development. Mary Carr’s character will continue to evolve, drawing inspiration from her real-life historical records and filling in backstory gaps creatively. Favorite characters, like Mr. Lao played by Jason Tobin, will make a return, and Alice Diamond’s role within the Forty Elephants will be further explored.

Fans can catch the premiere of A Thousand Blows Season 2 on January 9, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. The first season is currently available for streaming.
