Venice High Football Adds 3-Star QB and Howard Commit Darryon Jones
Venice High School is welcoming a new player to its football team this season. Darryon Jones, a senior from Chaminade-Madonna, has transferred to the team and is ready to compete for the position of quarterback. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound athlete committed to Howard University is set to challenge current starter Sean Long for the starting role, according to Coach John Peacock.
Jones, who describes himself as a dual-threat quarterback, has experience both in the pocket and extending plays with his legs. His arrival comes at a time when the team could use an offensive boost, following their recent games.
The timing of Jones’ transfer seems to be aligned with the needs of both the player and the team. With no recorded offensive stats at his previous school this season, Jones joins the Venice Indians just in time to potentially make a meaningful impact on the field.
It’s an exciting time for the team, as they navigate this adjustment period. Jones, alongside Long, shared first-team reps at their recent practice, showing that nothing is guaranteed, and everyone has to earn their place on the team. Peacock emphasized that they want to field the best players who give them the best chance to win.
Jones’ addition adds another layer of competition and energy to the team, as they push forward through the season. The opportunity for him to take the field as soon as Friday against Port Charlotte underscores the fast-paced nature of high school football and the ever-evolving dynamics of a team striving for success.
