Max changes name to HBO Max
Streaming fans, get ready—Max is becoming HBO Max again! Just two years after rebranding to Max, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the popular platform will be reverting to its original name. During a media presentation in New York City on May 14, the change was revealed and is expected to take place this summer.
According to a press release from the company, the decision to switch back to HBO Max comes after the platform gained 22 million subscribers over the past year. Warner Bros. Discovery credited this success to prioritizing what works best for viewers, such as HBO programming, docuseries, and original Max content. The company also noted that by focusing on engaging and unique storytelling, HBO Max has stood out from other streaming services.
The goal of this rebranding is to push the service forward and enhance the distinct offerings available to subscribers. The initial shift from HBO Max to Max in 2022 was aimed at providing a wider range of content as part of a collaboration with Discovery. While Max featured more Discovery+ content, Discovery’s streaming platform has also been offered on its own at different price points. HBO Max’s pricing was increased in January 2023, with the ad-free option now set at $16.99 per month in the U.S.
Over the years, HBO’s streaming services have evolved, starting with HBO Go in 2010 and leading to the launch of HBO Max in 2020. With the upcoming return to HBO Max, fans can look forward to even more of the quality programming and unique stories that have made the platform a favorite among viewers. Stay tuned for the exciting changes coming your way this summer!
