Prime Video Cancels Lady Jane: Here’s Why
aired. One such show that met an untimely end is “My Lady Jane,” an Amazon Prime Video original. Unfortunately, despite a loyal fan base, the show will not be returning for another season.
“My Lady Jane” is a historical romance with a fantastical twist, involving Ethians who can transform into animal forms, set in sixteenth-century England. The series follows Lady Jane Grey, who finds herself in an arranged marriage with Lord Guildford Dudley. Based on the book by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton, and Cynthia Hand, the show premiered in June and was canceled just two months later.
While no official reason was given for the cancellation, reports suggest that the show didn’t garner enough viewers to make it into the top 10 Nielsen ratings. Although some critics praised the show, it received mixed reviews overall. Despite this, the series maintains a solid rating on IMDb with many viewers enjoying the unique storyline and characters.
One of the highlights of “My Lady Jane” was its enemies-to-lovers storyline, which sets it apart from other period dramas. Fans were disappointed by the cancellation, including author George R.R. Martin, who expressed his love for the show and its imaginative take on English history.
While a second season of “My Lady Jane” seemed like a possibility, creator Gemma Burgess confirmed that it would not be happening. Unfortunately, in a competitive streaming market, not every show can continue on to fulfill its full potential.
