A new film and TV VFX division has been launched by Unit, a company known for its virtual production work. This division, led by co-founder Amanda Luckwell, is off to an exciting start with their first project, the six-part Paramount+ drama Stags. The team includes over 20 VFX artists specializing in CG creatures, environments, and fluids, with VFX supervisor Nuno Pereira leading the charge.

In their debut project, Unit brought to life a CG photoreal gorilla and CG environments for the series Stags, produced by Eleven Film. The show follows Stu, played by Nico Mirallegro, as he embarks on a stag do in South America that quickly takes a dark turn on a lawless prison island. Over the course of 17 weeks, Unit created more than 300 VFX shots for the series, enhancing the realism of the CG gorilla’s movements, fur, and expression.

Nuno Pereira, the VFX supervisor, expressed his excitement about the project, highlighting the team’s focus on achieving a natural and lifelike look for the CG gorilla. Amanda Luckwell, on the other hand, emphasized the attention to detail in creating the complex gorilla character named ‘El Niño’ and the VFX environments that seamlessly integrated into the storytelling.

Unit’s new film and TV VFX division adds to their existing film & TV picture post department and advertising department, solidifying their presence in the entertainment industry. With a talented team of artists, Unit is set to continue delivering high-quality VFX work that elevates storytelling and captivates audiences.
