Prime Video reveals Indian version of ‘The Traitors’ with Karan Johar as host

Prime Video India has unveiled plans for the Indian adaptation of the popular show of trust and deception, The Traitors. Teaming up with All3Media International, Prime Video is set to bring the local adaptation of IDTV’s BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning global format to Indian audiences. Produced by BBC Studios India Productions, the unscripted Original reality show will soon hit the screens.

The Indian version of The Traitors will debut on Prime Video in Hindi with English subtitles. The series is designed to test the intellect, wit, and strategic acumen of its participants as they vie for a substantial cash prize. A group of 20 contestants will converge at a grand palace, each aiming to claim the accumulated cash bounty, which grows through a series of physical and psychological challenges they undertake.

Participants will be designated as ‘innocents’ at the outset, unaware that a few among them are the ‘traitors’, discreetly selected by the host. In a game fraught with unexpected twists, ruthless deception, and constant maneuvering, the traitors must eliminate the innocents unless the innocents can identify them before it’s too late.

Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals at Prime Video India, expressed excitement about the addition of The Traitors to the platform’s lineup of compelling unscripted content. He highlighted the significance of having Karan Johar as the show’s host, emphasizing Johar’s ability to elevate drama and entertainment.

Karan Johar, the host, shared his enthusiasm for The Traitors, acknowledging its global popularity and his admiration for the format. Having watched versions from the UK and US, Johar praised the captivating drama and entertainment value of the show, commending the hosting skills of Claudia Winkleman and Alan Cumming.

The Traitors, originally titled De Verraders in Dutch, was conceptualized by Marc Pos and IDTV Creative Director Jasper Hoogendoorn in collaboration with RTL Creative Unit. Since its launch in the Netherlands on RTL 4 in 2021, the format has seen over 25 adaptations worldwide, with multiple returning seasons. Notable adaptations include the Emmy-winning US version for NBC Universal’s streaming service Peacock and the BAFTA-winning UK version on BBC One, which garnered significant viewership for its season 2 finale. The US and UK versions are set to return for additional seasons, including a celebrity version.

The Indian adaptation of The Traitors is poised to bring a unique blend of suspense, strategy, and entertainment to Prime Video viewers, promising an engaging and thrilling experience for reality show enthusiasts.
