Elle Fanning Explains Her Decision to Join OnlyFans
Elle Fanning had to do her homework for her role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Margo’s Got Money Troubles. The actress, known for her work in the Norwegian film Sentimental Value, where she is up for the Academy’s Best Supporting Actor award, shared during a panel after the film’s SXSW premiere that she delved into the world of OnlyFans to prepare.
“We did create an account for the writers’ room, and for me, so I could check out how the website is,” said Fanning, 27. She mentioned that they were very responsible in their research and made sure everyone involved gave consent before diving into the platform. This helped her understand the subscription-based platform known for its adult content, which was crucial for her role.
Fanning spent a significant amount of time on OnlyFans to get into character for Margot, a young mom who turns to sex work to make ends meet, in the series adaptation of Rufi Thorpe’s novel. Despite its adult themes, Fanning described the show as primarily a family drama that is heartwarming and hopeful.
This project marks Fanning’s fifth collaboration with A24, and the series is set to premiere on Apple TV on April 15th. Alongside Fanning, the show features stars like Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, and Nicole Kidman.
In addition to her role in Margo’s Got Money Troubles, Fanning is also in the running for the Best Actress award at the upcoming ceremony. She expressed her excitement at being nominated for her first Oscar this year, sharing her disbelief and honor in an Instagram post.
