Disney Robin Hood Live-Action Remake Update: Director Confirms Project is Not Progressing

Fans of Disney’s 1970s animated feature Robin Hood may not be feeling too cheerful after recent news about a potential live-action remake. According to filmmaker Carlos López Estrada, the studio isn’t moving forward with his planned photorealistic musical. The Hollywood Reporter first reported in April 2020 that Estrada was developing the movie for Disney+ after deals were finalized just before the industry shut down due to COVID-19.

In a recent Reddit AMA, López Estrada shared that the project is “dead, sadly.” The director mentioned that he believed there was something special and original about the remake, including exceptional music that had been developed for it. He even mentioned considering producing it independently with different characters, showing his passion for the project.

Before this update, THR revealed that Kari Granlund was writing the script for the feature remake, which was slated to be a hybrid of live action and CG. Granlund is known for her work on Disney’s 2019 version of Lady and the Tramp, the studio’s first remake to debut on a streaming platform. While fans may be disappointed, it seems like the live-action Robin Hood won’t be gracing our screens anytime soon.
