Hulu Announces Closure of Stand-Alone App, Users Report Disappearance

If you’re a Hulu user and a Nintendo Switch gamer, you might already be aware of the upcoming change that Hulu is making. The Hulu standalone app is on its way out, and some users have noticed it’s vanishing from consoles like the Nintendo Switch. It’ll officially stop working on the Switch on February 5, according to Nintendo.

This change is happening as part of Hulu’s merger with Disney+. Once the merger is complete, Hulu will be integrated into the Disney+ app. We don’t have an exact date for that yet, but it’s in the works. Some users have reported that the app is disappearing from various platforms.

To clarify why the app is being phased out on the Nintendo Switch, Hulu mentioned, “In an effort to provide viewers the best experience possible, we’ve had to let some devices go.” The app hasn’t been available for download from the Nintendo e-shop since November 6.

For those who are disappointed about no longer having access to Hulu on their Switch, you can still use Hulu on various devices like PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, Apple TV, Roku, and LG WebOS smart televisions. If you travel often, you can still enjoy Hulu on up to three devices at a time. Even if it’s a bummer for some Hulu users to lose their Switch app, there are still plenty of options available to keep streaming.
