Disneyland Handcrafted Documentary Streaming Date and Poster Released

This film takes a deep dive into the creation of Disneyland, featuring rare archival footage and audio recordings that offer a unique glimpse into the park’s early days.
“Disneyland Handcrafted” is set to start streaming on Disney+ and Disney YouTube on January 22, 2026. The documentary promises to take viewers behind the scenes, showcasing the challenges and triumphs of building the iconic theme park leading up to its grand opening in July 1955. Director Leslie Iwerks, the granddaughter of Ub Iwerks, combed through over 100 hours of raw footage, including previously unseen 16mm film reels from Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color. By scanning every reel in high resolution without a timecode, she and her team were able to create a finished product that includes firsthand accounts from the real artists and Imagineers who were on site in 1955.
Iwerks is a seasoned filmmaker with a track record of producing and directing acclaimed documentaries such as “The Pixar Story,” “The Imagineering Story,” “The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story,” and “Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible.” Her expertise in bringing Disney magic to life on screen is evident in the care and attention to detail shown in “Disneyland Handcrafted.”
