Disney+ Cancels ‘Holes’ TV Reboot Series

Disney+ had our hopes up for the gender-swapped TV reboot of the classic 2003 film Holes, but alas, the streaming platform has pulled the plug on this anticipated series. Originally set to feature Shay Rudolph as the main character, Hayley, with Greg Kinnear and Aidy Bryant in supporting roles, the show’s cancellation has left fans feeling let down.

It was back in January when Disney+ first announced the pilot order for the revamped version of the beloved ’90s movie. According to Variety, Shay Rudolph was all set to step into the lead role, with Greg Kinnear cast as the stern warden. Other notable actors like Aidy Bryant, Noah Cottrell, and several talented newcomers were also onboard for what was shaping up to be an exciting project.

Unsurprisingly, fans took to social media to express their disappointment over the sudden axing of the Holes TV reboot. One fan tweeted, “So disappointing,” while another echoed the sentiment, saying, “That’s genuinely disappointing news! Loved the movie, and a series adaptation sounded like a great idea.”

It’s clear from these reactions that viewers were eagerly anticipating this new take on the story. In the original film, Shia LaBeouf starred as Stanley Yelnats, a teenager who found himself at a detention camp for a crime he didn’t commit. As the plot unfolds, we see Stanley and his fellow campers digging holes in the desert, leading to unexpected discoveries about their surroundings and their own histories.
