Netflix executive Lloyd screen-tested for Channel 4 executive position

A top executive at Netflix is in the running to become the new CEO of Channel 4, the UK state-owned broadcaster. Emma Lloyd, who currently serves as the Vice President of Partnerships for Netflix in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, is among several candidates being considered for the position, according to Sky News.

Before joining Netflix, Lloyd worked at Sky, which is the parent company of Sky News. She also sat on the board of Ocado Group for nine years before stepping down recently. Jonathan Allan, who is currently the interim CEO of Channel 4, is also a potential candidate for the role. The selection process for the new CEO is being managed internally by Channel 4, with oversight from Ofcom and the UK Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy.

The appointment of a successor to Alex Mahon, Channel 4’s outgoing CEO, is crucial for the company and the wider public service broadcasting sector. With the recent naming of Geoff Cooper as the new Chairman of Channel 4, following Sir Ian Cheshire’s tenure, the leadership of the broadcaster is undergoing significant changes.

While Channel 4 successfully avoided privatization in the past, it still faces financial challenges due to evolving viewer habits and advertising trends. Emma Lloyd’s potential appointment as CEO could bring a fresh perspective and strategic direction to Channel 4 as it navigates these challenges.
