Peacock Feather Slide and Jellyfish Swing Sculptures Highlighted at 7 Delhi Theme Parks

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is taking a creative approach to urban recreation by developing seven theme parks across the city that will feature sculptures as their main attraction. These parks aim to combine art and play, sparking the curiosity of children and providing unique and interactive outdoor spaces for families to enjoy.

Using a concept called ‘sculpture play,’ the parks will incorporate sculptures made of durable materials like reinforced plastic and glass-reinforced cement fibre into functional elements such as swings, slides, seating areas, and dustbins. Each park will have a distinct theme, offering a variety of experiences for visitors.

For example, Ajmal Khan Park will have an octopus theme, while M Block Park in Greater Kailash-II will feature a ‘Garuda’ theme. Parks near PVR Saket will adopt an insect theme, Swasthya Vihar Park will focus on a marine theme, and a park in Mayur Vihar Phase-III will showcase a peacock theme. Other themes include an airplane theme near the Mayapuri DTC depot and a ‘Mowgli’ theme near Janakpuri West metro station.

The sculptures in these parks will also serve practical purposes. For instance, at the Mayur Vihar park, an enormous peacock sculpture will double as a slide, with its legs serving as stairs and its lower tail as a seating platform. In the octopus-themed park, the tentacles will form slides, and in the marine-themed park, benches and swings will resemble sea creatures like tortoises, jellyfish, and starfish.

The goal of these themed parks is to encourage children to engage in imaginative play and turn their visit into an adventure. The projects, funded under the AMRUT scheme, are expected to be completed within six months, providing engaging and interactive spaces for families to enjoy in various parts of Delhi.
