Apple TV Streaming Service: Everything You Need to Know
Apple TV, previously known as Apple TV+, is an American streaming service that you can subscribe to through Apple. It started up on November 1, 2019, and it’s all about original shows and movies made by Apple, known as Apple Originals.
During a big Apple event in March 2019, they introduced this service with famous entertainers like Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg. You can watch Apple TV on Apple’s website or through the Apple TV app, which you can now find on lots of Apple devices and even some other media players.
Apple TV has more than 45 million paid members and was recently rebranded to just “Apple TV” in October 2025. They’re planning to make it available to even more people and have ways for folks to access it even if their device doesn’t support it right now.
If you’re part of Apple One, you can get Apple TV as part of your subscription. A lot of the content you find there is in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for a super cool viewing experience.
When Apple TV+ first launched, it was in about 100 countries, which was less than they were aiming for but still pretty good. Some countries didn’t have access to it right away, even if they could get other Apple products. The fact that Apple creates their own content means they don’t have to worry about licensing issues like some other streaming services do.
At the start of 2020, Apple TV+ wasn’t growing as fast as they wanted compared to other services. So, they started adding older shows and movies to keep up with the competition and draw in more subscribers.
