Amazon Prime Settlement Refund Eligibility: Check If You Qualify
Amazon is shelling out a massive $2.5 billion settlement to customers due to accusations from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that the company sneakily enrolled people in the Prime subscription service without their consent and made it tricky to cancel.
FTC Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson stated that this move puts billions of dollars back in Americans’ pockets and ensures Amazon won’t repeat this behavior. The payout includes a $1 billion civil penalty and $1.5 billion in refunds, marking the FTC’s largest-ever settlement and the second-highest refund amount ever.
If you joined Amazon Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, or tried to cancel your subscription during that time without success, and you’re a US customer, you might be eligible for a refund. Refunds are maxed out at $51 per eligible customer and will be paid out in two installments.
Customers who signed up for Prime in specific ways will automatically receive refunds, while others will need to submit a claim form after the initial round of payments. The official claims website and process details are yet to be released, but eligible customers will be notified via email and mail, and will have 180 days to submit their claim.
Amazon has denied any wrongdoing, stating they’ve always followed the law but are settling to move forward and focus on innovation. Keep an eye out for refund notifications if you were an Amazon Prime member or tried to cancel your subscription between mid-2019 and mid-2025.
