Will Brown’s NASCAR Comeback Derailed by Multi-Car Crash
NASCAR fans were in for a wild ride during Will Brown’s return to the NASCAR Cup Series in Chicago. Just three laps into the race, chaos ensued as Carson Hocevar triggered a multi-car pile-up on the streets of Chicago.
The mayhem started when Hocevar’s #77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro clipped the inside wall at Turn 11, causing damage to his steering. This sent his car careening into the outside wall, then back across the track, directly into the path of Austin Dillon in the #3 Richard Childress Racing Camaro. With no room to maneuver, several other cars, including Brad Keselowski (#6 RFK Racing), Todd Gilliland (#34 Front Row Motorsports), Daniel Suarez (#99 Trackhouse Racing), Will Brown, and Riley Herbst (#35 23XI Racing) were caught in the chaos.
Even Kaulig Racing’s AJ Allmendinger in the #16 Camaro couldn’t escape unscathed as he tried to navigate through the wreckage. The track was partially blocked, prompting officials to wave the caution flag, which was quickly upgraded to a red flag as the cleanup process began.
Brown radioed to his crew, “I just had nowhere to go because I had someone on my right. Started braking and just went into them.” Unfortunately, Brown’s car sustained a broken toe link and a punctured radiator, forcing him out of contention early on.
At the time of the red flag, Michael McDowell was leading the race in the #71 Spire Motorsports Camaro, having edged out Shane van Gisbergen for the lead. The early wreck certainly shook up the race and kept fans on the edge of their seats. Keep an eye out for more thrilling NASCAR action and unexpected twists and turns!
