Ironheart: Possible Cancellation and Season 2 Status
It seems like Ironheart will not be getting a Season 2 based on recent updates.
According to a source within Marvel, individuals at the company are considering Ironheart to be the worst project they have ever created.
Head writer and series creator Chinaka Hodge has indicated that the possibility of Ironheart Season 2 relies heavily on viewership numbers. She emphasized that audiences will play a key role in determining the future of the show. So, if you are a fan, be sure to watch Ironheart to demonstrate the strong fan base to Disney and the MCU.
Although Ironheart was developed three years ago, it was put on hold by Disney and Marvel due to reported creative changes, which included reshoots and editing.
Despite the absence of Nielsen ratings, Ironheart is not showing up on the Luminate viewership charts, similar to Daredevil: Born Again. This suggests that Ironheart is not performing well in terms of viewership.
Compared to Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart’s viewership situation seems similar, signaling low viewership numbers.
Furthermore, Ironheart is not an exception regarding the lack of official announcements on viewership figures from Disney. Additionally, Samba TV has not reported household viewership data for Ironheart.
Disney released episodes of Ironheart in batches of three. Although this was also the case for Andor Season 2, which performed well, the individual average viewership of Andor Season 2 indicates that if released singly, they might not have charted on Nielsen.
Given the failures of Marvel productions like She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, as well as Star Wars projects like The Acolyte with substantial budgets, Disney has started to cut down budgets and modify its content strategy.
If by some chance Ironheart were to get renewed for a second season, the budget allocated would likely be reduced, as seen with Daredevil, Agatha, and Echo.
Marvel fans, except possibly Loki enthusiasts, have not been drawn to Kevin Feige’s post-Endgame direction, which prioritizes political themes over storytelling, a factor that has not resonated well with fans.
Ironheart has now claimed the unfortunate title of the MCU project with the lowest Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score on Disney+, sitting at 52%. This makes it even worse than the previous record holder, Secret Invasion, which was at 53%.
