New Barbershop Series Coming to Amazon Prime Video
Are you ready to step back into the world of the barbershop? It’s been a long time coming, but Amazon Prime Video is bringing us a new series that will take us back to the beloved establishment.
Set in the iconic Calvin’s barbershop in Chicago, the new series follows Travis “Trav” Porter, the grandson of the legendary barber who made the shop a go-to spot for fresh cuts. Travis is on a mission to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps, keeping the spirit of the shop alive with lively banter, argumentative customers, and, of course, the dopest fades in the city.
The series, which marks the sixth installment in the franchise, is being developed by Hartbeat, Prominent Productions, and State Street Pictures and is produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Jermaine Fowler takes on the lead role of Travis, while Marshall Todd serves as writer and executive producer, and Max Searle as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Amazon MGM Studios’ head of television, Vernon Sanders, expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to announce a new series based on the hilarious and innovative world of Barbershop for our global Prime Video customers.” With the talented team behind the series, including Max Searle and Marshall Todd, viewers can expect a fresh take on the beloved franchise.
For those unfamiliar with the Barbershop world, the series first started in the 2002 comedy starring Ice Cube as Calvin, who inherited the barbershop from his father. The franchise includes movies like “Barbershop 2: Back in Business” and “Barbershop: The Next Cut,” as well as a short-lived TV series that aired on Showtime in 2005.
After a decade-long hiatus, fans can look forward to revisiting Calvin’s barbershop in this new series on Amazon Prime Video. Get ready for more laughs, drama, and, of course, some iconic haircuts!
