PM Modi Gifts Brass Dokra Peacock Boat to Thai PM and Silver-Gold Cufflinks to Spouse

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently went on a visit to Bangkok and brought the essence of Indian craftsmanship with him in the form of beautiful gifts for the Thai Prime Minister and her spouse. One of these gifts was a Dokra Brass Peacock Boat with a Tribal Rider, a piece that represents the skilled metalwork of Chhattisgarh’s tribal communities. Crafted using the ancient lost-wax casting technique, each boat is unique and handmade, showcasing intricate details and colorful inlays that symbolize grace and cultural imagery.

The boat itself is shaped like a peacock, a symbol of elegance, with a tribal rider rowing peacefully, symbolizing the balance between humans and nature. Made of brass, this piece ages beautifully, developing a rich patina that adds to its antique charm. Beyond its decorative value, this artifact serves as a reminder of India’s tribal heritage, embodying simplicity, creativity, and a strong connection to nature.

For the Thai PM’s spouse, PM Modi chose a pair of gold-plated cufflinks with a tiger motif and pearls, blending tradition and modern sophistication. The cufflinks feature intricate Meenakari work, a traditional craft from Rajasthan and Gujarat, with vibrant enamel detailing that reflects India’s rich jewelry traditions. The design, showcasing a majestic tiger face, symbolizes courage, leadership, and royalty. Crafted with high-quality silver and gold plating, these cufflinks are not just accessories but wearable pieces of heritage that come with a bullet-back closure for durability and ease of wear.

During his visit, PM Modi also participated in the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, where the vision for 2030 and a Maritime Transport Agreement were adopted. He expressed India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors within the BIMSTEC region, hoping to make a positive impact on member states. Additionally, PM Modi had the opportunity to meet with other world leaders on the sidelines of the summit, including Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, and Nepal PM KP Sharma Oli.
