Escaped Peacock Roaming Gray for Over a Month
If you happen to be wandering around the forests of Gray, Maine, you might just catch a glimpse of an unexpected visitor – a peacock on the loose! This colorful bird earned the nickname “Rambo” after making a daring escape from the Maine Wildlife Park last month.
Rambo has been exploring the Thayer Brook Preserve, about 5 miles from the park, for over a month now. However, recent sightings indicate that Rambo may have ventured north toward Shaker Hill. The Royal River Conservation Trust has been keeping tabs on the peacock’s whereabouts, with many residents documenting its journey on social media.
Despite facing predators like foxes, coyotes, and bobcats, Rambo has shown remarkable resilience in adapting to its new environment. The park staff at Maine Wildlife Park have set up a feed station and trap in hopes of safely recovering the adventurous peacock. It seems Rambo will soon be back in familiar territory within the park.
While the Maine Wildlife Park primarily cares for native Maine wildlife, they also have a few peafowl on-site to help with pest control. These birds are a reminder of the park’s history as a game farm. Officials encourage residents to report any sightings of Rambo but caution against trying to catch the bird themselves. So, if you spot a flashy peacock strutting through the Maine wilderness, just give the park a call and let them handle the rescue mission!
