Hulu Docuseries Filming in Marshfield, MA Featuring James ‘Whitey’ Bulger
A new three-part docuseries titled “Hunting Whitey Bulger” is currently in production in Marshfield, Massachusetts. The series, based on a book by local authors Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge, focuses on legendary South Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger.
Narrated by Boston native Ben Affleck, who also serves as an executive producer, the docuseries delves into the capture and killing of America’s most wanted crime boss. Sherman, a Marshfield resident, and Wedge, from Milton, are both executive producers as well.
The filming crew was in Marshfield on June 24 for a one-day shoot involving reenactments for the series. Whitey Bulger, the notorious mob boss and leader of the Winter Hill Gang, went into hiding for 16 years after being tipped off by an FBI agent about his impending indictment. He was eventually captured in California in 2011, found guilty on multiple charges, and linked to 11 murders. Bulger passed away in prison in 2018 at the age of 89.
Sherman and Wedge’s 2020 book “Hunting Whitey” provides a detailed account of how Bulger managed to evade capture. Through interviews with over 30 individuals, the authors shed light on the FBI’s efforts to track him down. The book also explores Bulger’s life in prison, including his correspondence with the authors and an inmate suspected of his murder.
In addition to “Hunting Whitey,” Casey Sherman has authored other notable books, such as “A Rose for Mary: The Hunt for the Real.” The docuseries promises to be a gripping exploration of one of the most notorious figures in American crime history.
