Disney+ and A24 UK Partner for New Comedy Drama Series “DAD”
Disney+ has some exciting news for fans of comedy dramas! They’ve joined forces with A24 UK to create a new series called “DAD.” According to Deadline, the show follows grown-up siblings whose lives take a dramatic turn when their father is accused of murder. The series, written by Clem Garrett, has already received a straight-to-series order.
In a competitive bidding war, Disney+ emerged victorious over networks like the BBC, ITV, and Sky. As a result, “DAD” will be available to stream as a Hulu Original in the US. While casting details are still under wraps, the show promises to be a compelling exploration of family dynamics and past secrets.
“DAD” introduces us to Sammy, Ned, and Jess, who must come together to unravel the mysteries of their family’s history. As they delve into the past, they are confronted with the harsh realities of their present lives. The series is a mix of dark humor and emotional complexity, touching on themes of identity and family bonds.
This collaboration between Disney+ and A24 UK is not the first of its kind. The two studios have previously worked together on successful projects like Hulu’s “Ramy” and FX’s upcoming series “The Marriage Plot.” Disney+ EMEA’s VP of scripted, Lee Mason, praised “DAD” as a bold and original series that promises to captivate audiences with its compassion and humor.
In other Disney TV news, fans can look forward to the return of “Jeopardy! Masters” on ABC, a major overall deal signed by showrunner Quinta Brunson with 20th Television, and the adaptation of the global hit “Warrior Cats” into an animated series. Additionally, the upcoming season of “Project Runway” on Freeform is gearing up with a new trailer and guest judges lineup.
To catch all these exciting updates and more, make sure to sign up for Disney+ or the Disney Streaming Bundle, which includes Disney+, ESPN+, and ad-supported Hulu. Stay tuned for more news and entertainment updates from Disney and A24!
