Brittany Allen Submits for Emmy Nomination for ‘The Pitt’ After HBO Rejection
Brittany Allen is all smiles as she chats over Zoom from her backyard in Pasadena, discussing how she took matters into her own hands after HBO failed to include her in their Emmy submission package for “The Pitt.” Her role as Roxie, a dying wife and mother who appears in the trauma bay during the show’s second season, was supposed to last for six episodes, but two more were added, keeping her unsure if she would make an appearance in the eighth episode when Roxie succumbs to cancer.
“I was waiting to see if they would include that scene they had shot,” says Allen. “When I saw that they just had her pass away off camera, first of all, I thought that was a beautiful decision creatively. And then it opened the door for me to be eligible, which was, oh my God, exciting.”
The process of qualifying as a guest actress for an Emmy nomination can be tricky. To be considered, a performer must appear in less than 50% of a show’s eligible season episodes. Additionally, any actor who has been nominated or won in a lead or supporting category in the past cannot submit themselves for a guest category for the same role. This rule was highlighted back in 2016, when Peter MacNicol received a guest comedy actor nomination for HBO’s “Veep” but was disqualified for appearing in too many episodes.
While HBO may not have included her in their submission, Allen took the initiative and submitted herself for consideration. If she were to be nominated, she would be up against tough competition from Katherine LaNasa, Sepideh Moafi, Taylor Dearden, and Isa Briones in the supporting drama actress category. Regardless of the outcome, Allen remains grateful for the opportunity and is excited about the prospect of being recognized for her work on “The Pitt.”
