Tom Hiddleston Investigates Time in Pompeii: Out of Time

National Geographic is taking us on a thrilling journey back in time with their upcoming three-part docudrama, “Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston,” set to premiere on July 23 on Disney+ and Hulu. Hosted by Tom Hiddleston, known for his role as Loki, and executive produced by Kevin R. Wright, the series combines cinematic scripted drama with investigative documentary storytelling to explore the final hours of Pompeii before and during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

As Hiddleston steps into the role of a time detective, he uncovers new evidence and real stories of the people of Pompeii, challenging our assumptions about this ancient city’s fate. Guided by a team of experts, including archaeologists, historians, and geologists, Hiddleston reconstructs the lives of ordinary Romans facing impossible choices as disaster looms.

“I’ve been fascinated by the ancient world for as long as I can remember,” says Hiddleston. “To visit Pompeii is to feel the past come alive. Our relationship with history is so alive, studying who we were helps us understand who we are today. It’s a privilege to host this immersive series and shed light on the human stories of Pompeii.”

Executive producer Kevin R. Wright, known for his work on Marvel’s “Loki,” brings a bold cinematic vision to the series. By blending groundbreaking discoveries with personal storytelling, “Pompeii: Out of Time” reframes the Pompeii story as a human drama of resilience and survival, highlighting the lives and destinies of those who faced the eruption of Vesuvius.

In addition to the series, National Geographic will release a major story on Roman cities buried by Mount Vesuvius in A.D. 79, offering new insights into ancient Roman life. The original soundtrack, featuring a score by composer Aisling Brouwer, will be available on July 24, 2026.
