Chris Carter Announces Release Date for R-Rated Director’s Cut of Second X-Files Movie
Files: I Want to Believe is a standalone thriller that picks up six years after the end of the iconic TV series, following ex-FBI Agent Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully as they are pulled back into the world of investigations to uncover the truth behind a female agent’s disappearance.
Fans of The X-Files have long awaited the release of the R-Rated Director’s Cut of the movie, as creator Chris Carter originally had to tone down the horror to secure a PG-13 rating. Now, nearly two decades later, viewers will finally get to experience the film as Carter intended.
The new title, The X-Files: I Want to Believe Vrach Frankenshteyn, faithfully restores Carter’s original vision and includes the Russian term for Victor Frankenstein, which adds an intriguing twist to the Director’s Cut.
In a podcast chat last year, Carter mentioned that he had made the movie too scary initially, but it had to be edited down to meet studio demands. With this new version, he has the opportunity to bring his original terrifying vision to life on screen, giving fans a chance to experience the movie in its true form.
Additionally, fans can look forward to a reboot of The X-Files, led by director Ryan Coogler and featuring a star-studded cast including Steve Buscemi, Amy Madigan, and Ben Foster. While Mulder actor David Duchovny has confirmed discussions with Coogler about the reboot, it remains to be seen if he or Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles.
Coogler has promised a mix of classic “Monsters of the Week” episodes and overarching conspiracy themes in the reboot, providing a fresh take on the beloved series. Exciting times lie ahead for fans of The X-Files as they eagerly anticipate the release of the Director’s Cut and the upcoming reboot.
