NASCAR CEO: Prime Video and TNT Sports Regret Not Purchasing More Races
NASCAR fans have had to adjust to a new broadcast landscape over the past couple of years, with the sport splitting its media rights among five different partners. Although this change initially sparked some controversy among fans, many have come around to appreciate the new innovations brought by partners like Prime Video and TNT Sports. In fact, NASCAR’s CEO, Steve O’Donnell, recently revealed that both Prime Video and TNT Sports wish they had bought more races back when the new media agreements were inked.
While it’s unlikely that Prime Video or TNT Sports will be able to secure additional races in the near future, NASCAR’s decision to spread its inventory among multiple partners has proven to be a financial boon for the sport. By securing approximately $1.1 billion per year for its media rights, NASCAR has set itself up for a lucrative future, despite the logistical challenges of managing multiple broadcast partners.
Looking ahead, NASCAR is gearing up to sell its next batch of media rights starting in 2029, which could lead to even more growth and opportunities for the sport. With a diverse array of partners and a strong fan base, NASCAR is well positioned for success in the streaming entertainment landscape.
