Pro Wrestling’s Ineffective Counter-Programming Practices
Counter-programming in wrestling can be overwhelming. Just take the recent schedule of events, with TNA’s Slammiversary, NXT’s Great American Bash, and AEW Forbidden Door’s main card all airing within hours of each other. That’s 10 hours of non-stop action and potentially over $100 in expenses if you’re trying to catch it all. It’s a lot to ask of fans, especially during the busy summer months.
With so much wrestling happening at once, it’s no wonder fans might feel overwhelmed by the choices. It’s a lot of time and money to commit, and not everyone can do it. As the companies continue to compete for viewership, it’s the fans who ultimately have to make sacrifices. So, it might be time for wrestling promotions to rethink their scheduling strategies to make it easier for fans to enjoy their favorite events without feeling burnt out.
