Malcolm D. Lee, Chloe Bailey, and Lucien Laviscount Discuss Peacock’s Series ‘Strung’

Malcolm D. Lee, known for hits like The Best Man and Girls Trip, takes a thrilling turn with his latest project on Peacock, ‘Strung’. This psychological thriller stars talented actors Chloe Bailey, Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, Anna Diop, and Coco Jones in a story teeming with mystery and deception.

The film premiered as the opening night selection of the 30th American Black Film Festival. ‘Strung’ follows Layla, a gifted violinist navigating life post a personal tragedy. Unable to land a spot with the Philharmonic, she teaches music while living with her best friend Jasmine, played by Jones. Layla’s life takes a turn when she meets Audra, a wealthy woman played by Whitfield, who hires her to tutor her talented granddaughter, Zuri.

For Lee, stepping into a psychological thriller was a new challenge he couldn’t resist. Despite his comedy background, Lee shared with ESSENCE, “The truth of the matter is I don’t consider myself a one trick pony. I love doing comedy, but I’ve always wanted to do different genres.” The script of ‘Strung’ captivated him and promised a suspenseful and immersive experience.

Although ‘Strung’ differs from Lee’s previous comedy films, it retains his signature focus on relationships. Betrayal, trust, and complex family dynamics are central to the story, with suspense driving these themes forward. Music, particularly the violin, is also a significant element, intricately woven into Layla’s character, adding depth and tension to the narrative.

So get ready to dive into a world of mystery and deception with ‘Strung’ on Peacock, where Lee’s versatile storytelling comes to life in a gripping psychological thriller.
