Netflix Documentary Celebrities Scale Empire State Building for Gravity-Defying Wedding Proposal
Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau, the viral Empire State Building climbers, have been identified as the stars of the Netflix documentary “Skywalkers: A Love Story.” On a recent Wednesday, New Yorkers, along with the police, were captivated by these two mystery climbers scaling the iconic building. It was later revealed that Ivan “Vanya” Beerkus and Angela Nikolau, both Russian climbers, were behind the daring stunt, which was not affiliated with Netflix.
The couple took to their Instagram accounts to share the news of their engagement, which happened at the top of the Empire State Building after completing their climb. They unfurled a flag with a message that read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” This heartfelt message was displayed for all onlookers, including the helicopters circling above.
Following their time at the top of the building, Beerkus and Nikolau, who once again climbed without harnesses or safety measures, were taken into police custody. Their documentary, “Skywalkers: A Love Story,” was acquired by Netflix at Sundance in 2024. The film, seven years in the making, follows the couple’s love story as they travel the world to conquer the last super skyscraper and execute a daring acrobatic stunt on the spire.
One of their notable climbs featured in the documentary was Malaysia’s Merdeka Tower, a 2,227-feet-tall structure, where they spent 30 hours hiding from construction crews to successfully complete their mission and leave the country without being arrested. The captivating story of Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau continues to inspire audiences with their adventurous and fearless spirit.
