James Norton Cast as Hamlet in Thomas Ostermeier’s Upcoming West End Show
James Norton, known for his roles in “Happy Valley” and “House of the Dragon,” is gearing up to tackle the iconic role of Hamlet in the West End. This marks the first time a British actor will take on this role since Andrew Scott in 2017. Norton will be directed by the esteemed Thomas Ostermeier, who has previously worked with stars like Cate Blanchett and Matt Smith.
The production is set to debut in the fall of next year. Norton expressed both excitement and fear about playing Shakespeare’s complex and grieving prince. With Ostermeier guiding the way, he feels confident that he is in good hands. Norton shared, “Both this role and this director have intrigued me and challenged me over the years, and so I cannot wait to start this journey with Thomas and see where it takes us.”
Ostermeier also expressed his enthusiasm for revisiting “Hamlet” in the West End with the talented James Norton. It will be a new and exciting challenge for both of them, and they are eager to bring this iconic Shakespearean character to life on stage once again.
