Warner Bros. Animation Developing Dark Shadows Animated Reboot

A classic TV soap is making a spooky comeback! Warner Bros. Animation has announced that they are working on an animated reboot of the iconic ABC vampire drama “Dark Shadows.” Set to continue the story of the Collins family, this new animated series will blend elements of Gothic romance, horror, and the supernatural to capture the essence of the original show that ran for over 1200 episodes.

Originally airing in 1966, “Dark Shadows” started as a Gothic romance before taking a supernatural turn with the introduction of the vampire Barnabas Collins. The show developed a devoted following until it ended in 1971. There have been attempts to revive the series over the years, including a short-lived remake on NBC in 1991 and a sequel series planned by The CW in 2019 that never made it to air. In 2012, the series even received a big-budget film adaptation directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as Barnabas.

While the new animated series does not have a network attached yet, there is speculation that it could find a home on a Warner Bros. Discovery network like Adult Swim or HBO Max.
