Novak Djokovic documentary from director of ‘Last Dance’ set to premiere this summer
A documentary on Novak Djokovic’s career has been in the works for the last few years, and fans are in for a treat. Titled “Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter,” the film will premiere on Prime Video on Aug. 20, just before the U.S. Open.
Directed by Jason Hehir, known for his work on “The Last Dance,” the documentary promises exclusive behind-the-scenes access to Djokovic’s incredible journey from a boy in war-torn Serbia to one of the most successful tennis players in history. It’s a deep dive into Djokovic’s life, showcasing his evolution from being perceived as an ‘unwelcome intruder’ in Federer and Nadal’s reign to his current status as a tennis legend.
Hehir shared, “Novak gave us unfettered access to his tireless physical and mental preparation as he competes at the highest level of the sport, battling men sometimes half his age. In the process, we got to know him as a father, a husband, a friend, and a sometimes maddeningly stubborn polarizing cultural figure.” It’s evident that Djokovic is a complex and misunderstood figure, and this documentary aims to shed light on his true persona.
Unlike Nadal and Federer, who released documentaries post-retirement, and Osaka and Alcaraz who did so at their peak fame, Djokovic’s film comes at a unique moment in his career. Even as he competes in Grand Slams and collected seven Wimbledon titles, Djokovic is setting his sights on a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title. It’s a pivotal moment for Djokovic, and fans are eager to see this exploration of his life and career unfold on screen.
